Introduction:This study aims to investigate the prevalence of Lophomonas blattarum in allergic rhinitis patients and the effect of allergic rhinitis treatment in patients with allergic rhinitis along with L. blattarum infection. Materials and Methods: This Prospective cohort study was conducted in the tertiary otorhinolaryngology-head and neck centers in Mashhad, Iran. Patients with allergic rhinitis (in the two groups of L. blattarum-positive and L. blattarum-negative) were treated for allergic rhinitis, and their response to treatment was evaluated after 2 and 4 weeks. Results: In this study, 56 patients (including 36 females and 20 males) were examined. The L. blattarum was identified in 16 patients (28.6%), 10 of whom were female. There was no significant relationship between L. blattarum infection with gender (p: 0.990), occupation (p: 0.915), type of allergy (p: 0.990), and various allergens. After treatment, the severity of allergic rhinitis symptoms, except for eye swelling (p: 0.203), were significantly decreased in L. blattarum-positive patients. Also, the severity of allergic rhinitis symptoms were remarkably decreased in both L. blattarum-positive and L. blattarum-negative patients. Conclusion:The L. blattarum infection was found in 28.6% of patients with allergic rhinitis, and L. blattarum infection did not affect the treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Introduction:The patient handling time can affect a patient’s access to critical care; also, there is a relationship between patient handling time in the emergency ward and recovery rates. Nurses and staff of emergency wards are essential factors affecting patient flows in emergency wards. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study focused on the flow of patients referring to the level-1 Academic Traumatic Emergency Ward during 2018-2019. Nurses were divided into two categories of group and small-group training, each receiving two training rounds one month apart. The Revised Form of Timing and Workflow Emergency checklist was used for evaluation. Results: Evaluating 600 patients showed that the average time from patient entry to level 3 triage up to file creation was 24.8 minutes before interventions, and the same was 19.6 minutes for small groups and 17.6 for group training category (p<0.05), pointing to the fact that the group training category showed a significant reduction in average time from patient entry to triage to file creation. Conclusion:The present study found that the training of nurses is practical for the flow times of patients hospitalized in emergency wards.

Effect of Communication Skills on Patient Safety among Surgical Team Members in Operating Room: A Qualitative Study

Introduction:Improvement of communication skills and all activities among the surgical team members during the operations can accelerate the patient safety (PS) and reduce the rate of surgical errors (SEs). Besides, the real impact of communicational skills on PS needs more attention. Thus, in the present qualitative investigation, the authors aimed to assess the probable significant relevancy among the impacts of precise communication of surgical team members and PS in operating room (OR). Materials and Methods: The grounded theory approach was hired for investigation and the samples were selected purposefully. Then, interviews were applied among the surgical team members (n=8), including anesthesiologists, surgical technologists (STs), and the surgeons. Finally, Strauss and Corbin’s assays were used for data analysis. Results: The findings revealed that the interfering agents influencing PS can be categorized into two time-periods of prior to the surgery (with 5 sub-categories) and during the surgery (with 3 sub-groups). Conclusion:The communication and cooperation are two crucial essentials requiring for OR teamwork activities. Thus, the PS is directly affected by comprehensive communication among the surgical team members.

Introduction:Asthma and parasitic infections are both common childhood diseases. Due to the high prevalence of these two diseases among Iranian children, we decided to investigate the association between giardiasis and asthma and some sociodemographic documents. Materials and Methods: In this study, 200 asthmatic children referred to the asthma clinic of Sheikh Hospital, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran, and 50 healthy children, as the control group, were included. After interviewing parents, sociodemographic documents were recorded, including age, sex, duration and severity of asthma, parents' education, and occupation. Three-morning stool samples were collected from individuals daily. Examination of giardiasis based directly or formalin-ether based. Giardiasis infection was compared between healthy and asthmatic children. Besides, the relation between sociodemographic documents and giardiasis infection among asthmatic children was investigated. Records were analyzed by statistical package for social sciences (SPSS.ver.20). Results: We found that 12 (6%) samples from the asthma group and 5 (10%) samples from the control group were positive for giardiasis (P=0.13). There was also no significant relationship between the severity or duration of asthma and giardiasis (P=0.33, P=0.97). Besides, there was no significant relationship between sociodemographic documents and giardiasis among asthmatic children (P>0.05).Conclusion: In this study, the frequency of giardiasis was similar in both control and asthma groups. This issue might be probable that giardiasis infection has not any role in protecting, causing, or exacerbating pediatric asthma.

Introduction: The Patient Safety (PS) movement dates back to the 1950s, but in recent decades has caught up in swift momentum and is also influencing the Indian healthcare scenario - a lot of work has been done on the global scenario and we are just catching up. Materials & Methodology: This baseline study assesses the current status of Human Factors & Ergonomics w.r.t. Patient Safety Culture in a tertiary healthcare institution of Northern India within a study population of Doctors (Faculty & Resident), Nursing Staff (Graduates & Undergraduates), and Technicians - a first of its kind for the region. The overall response rate was obtained on the (customized & validated) Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) toolkit.Result: The overall response rate came to 75.7% and the composite Patient Safety Culture score was 46.35% (with internal variations). Conclusion: This calls for introspection to lift the overall standards of PS and PSC and to build further upon them.
